RCL Daily Devotions written by Dr. Kimberly Leetch from RCL Worship Resources (see more).
Have you settled on a New Year’s resolution yet? We’re only days away, so if you’re gonna do it, do it now.
I wonder why people are so fascinated with NY resolutions? Maybe it’s because, when life gets difficult, it’s a relief to dream about the new life we might have if we could just follow through with our commitments. A new life will be a better life.
Here on the earth, that reality ebbs and flows. Sometimes new is better. Other times it is worse. But the new life promised in God’s kingdom — a new heaven, a new earth — that truly will be better, even than our lives when they are at their best.
As for my NY resolution, I never make them. If it’s something I want to do, I’ll start it in December. If it’s not something I want to do, telling myself I’ll do it starting on an arbitrary day like New Year’s won’t help me follow through. (Plus, then I’ll feel the shame of failing, and why put myself through that?) No, I’m going to keep working at making every day new, better, best.
