RCL Daily Devotions written by R. Fergus Moir from RCL Worship Resources (see more).

Sometimes I’m not a good listener. I try to be, but I get so easily distracted. Someone can be talking to me, yet suddenly I’m running through my to-do list or my brain goes off on a tangent. Next thing I know, they’ll ask me what I think and I’m mortified to realize I have no idea what they’ve just said. Yikes!

God has incredible things to say to us, if only we listen. In Psalm 85, God’s people pray for forgiveness and restoration. They know they have messed up, and that God has been angry with them. Yet the psalm ends with the promise that God will speak peace and restore them. We, too, sin and fall short, and are in need of forgiveness and restoration. We must open our ears and listen for God’s boundless grace.

Restoring God, open my ears to hear your words of peace and forgiveness to me. Amen.
