My God in his steadfast love will meet me;
my God will let me look in triumph on my enemies.

RCL Daily Devotions written by Daniel D. Maurer from RCL Worship Resources (see more).

One method of reading the Psalms from a devotional standpoint is to place the persona of “enemies” into a more personal category. For example, the enemies that the psalmist speaks of most likely are true literal enemies to the Jews in that day and age.

I don’t have nations plotting against me. (At least I hope not!) However, I have my own battles I deal with from a personal standpoint everyday. These enemies are more metaphorical than anything.

The big one for me is using my time appropriately. I love to read, for example. That’s not a bad thing, but it can become problematic when I have other things I ought to be doing than perusing article after article on the internet.

Each of us fights our own battles against many varying enemies.

What’s yours? Does reading the Psalms and praying to God seem to help you fight these enemies?
