Psalm 39, My Grandpa Was Right

Key Verse

You have made my days a few handbreadths,
and my lifetime is as nothing in your sight.
— Psalm 39: 5

RCL Daily Devotion for Monday, March 25, 2019

RCL Daily Devotions written by Daniel D. Maurer from RCL Worship Resources (see more).

I remember one trip our family had taken to my grandparents’ lake cabin just an hour north of where we lived. I must have been in my early teens.

I had been out fishing with my grandfather, and we had an enjoyable time in each others’ company. As we were taking the boat back in for some shore lunch, I remember my grandpa telling me that the years will just keep getting faster as you get older, and to never take them for granted.

Boy, was he right.

I’m going to be 48 this year and I never thought that this is what 48 would “feel like.” (Whatever that is…)

The important thing to remember is that there is one who holds all of our days in their hands, and that is our God. God sees all of time all at once, and simultaneously lives in each moment. The wonder of each moment is that it will never happen again, and it’s best that we do not forget that fact.

Lord, thank you for each moment. Grant me the wisdom today that I might not forget how precious each moment in life is. Amen.
