What a wonderful word of hope!
Let’s face it. We all have our ups and downs, our challenges and setbacks, our deep hurts and long-held sorrows. Among mine are a life-long struggle with clinical depression. I am grateful that it is fairly well controlled, but when I am in the midst of an episode of emotional and spiritual deadness I can convince myself it will never end, that this is how it has always been and will always be. Yet and still I am never alone. God does not abandon me, nor anyone else. God can and will lift us up, and we will get rid of our mourning clothes in favor of an entirely new fashion, the bright and glorious hues of joy.
Loving God, I turn over to you my darkest sorrows and deepest wounds, trusting in the promise of joy in your presence. Amen.
