RCL Daily Devotions written by Daniel D. Maurer from RCL Worship Resources (see more).
Once again, I will reiterate my absolute love in reading the Gospel of John. Not only is Jesus continually clever in it, but everyone else is a complete idiot! The Gospel of John—believe it or not—is a humorous spiritual text.
The leaders of the Hebrews questioned Jesus’ testimony, referring that his testimony was invalid, because he was speaking about himself. Jesus replies with a wonderfully (and frustratingly) circular answer stating that, if they really knew who he was and who his father was, they wouldn’t be questioning him in the first place.
For this New Year’s Eve, I am left reflecting on the previous year, what I have accomplished, and what it means to grow, change, become old (ugh! 48!!), and what new things are in store. Perhaps if I were to see the humor in our existence and take myself less seriously, maybe everything would be a bit better.
After all, Jesus did.
Happy New Year from RCL Worship Resources and our writing team!
Blessings to you all.
