RCL Daily Devotions written by Daniel D. Maurer from RCL Worship Resources (see more).
Today we have one of those passages from the Bible that make you go . . . whaaaaa ??
Evidently, we’re seeing the interaction between Jesus, his disciples, the “one who would betray him”, and “the disciple whom Jesus loved.”
All the disciples wanted to know who it was who would betray Jesus. Jesus gives them no indication. But he also seems to have given an odd redirect concerning this “other” disciple.
Without going into the whole issue of this disciple, his (or her) identity, or any of that, the real issue at stake here is that the Bible seems very clear on the issue of “testimony.”
In fact, it seems like that’s all we have left today . . . what somebody said and wrote down a long, long time ago.
Testimony is about trust. Really that’s what it boils down to. Do we trust what has been given to us as truth? How do we continue to discern that truth in light of new findings.
I think that’s what faith’s all about! Growth, trust, doubt, re-growth, and living with in the living Word.
