RCL Daily Devotions written by Daniel D. Maurer from RCL Worship Resources (see more).
Setting a measuring stick up to your own life is a potentially daunting task. I know that in my own life, I either fail to see the places where I fall short, or if I do see them, I try to justify why I’m doing this or that behavior.
It’s a tricky place to be, because often the measuring stick I use to evaluate my spiritual life is often distorted by my own (mis)perceptions.
Sometimes others are a better judge of us. Sometimes not, though, too. Only God can ultimately know our own hearts. I think the takeaway from today’s text is that we endeavor to always consider the spiritual path we’re following, and evaluate whether its destination is ultimately where God wants to lead us.
Teach me your ways, O God. Lead me to follow you and correct my course when you see fit. Amen.
